HOTEL UKUNE is a small hotel with just three rooms, repurposed from an old building.

We renovated the space to create a hotel where sleep takes center stage.

As we operate with a small team, we may not be able to offer the same level of service as large hotels, but we personally handle everything—from reservations and cleaning to key management—to ensure your stay is comfortable.

Sleep, a part of your journey

About one-third of your journey is spent sleeping.
That’s why we believe that a deep, restful sleep should also be part of your travel memories.

All of our rooms are equipped with top-quality GELTRON mattresses, designed to make you feel as though you’re floating—liberated from the pull of gravity.

The unique gel material combines the springiness of gummy candy with the fluidity of water, providing gentle support with no pressure on any part of your body, whether you sleep on your back or side. Originally developed in the medical field to prevent bedsores, the technology helps distribute pressure to the greatest extent possible.

Each mattress is handcrafted in Maizuru, Kyoto. The materials are hypoallergenic, resistant to dust mites and mold, and free from environmental toxins. They are also recyclable, making them kind to both people and the planet.

We recommend these mattresses not only for those who struggle to sleep on standard hotel beds, but also for important times when good sleep matters—such as before an exam or presentation.

We have also installed mosquito nets made of natural linen in each bedroom. Once an essential part of summer life in Japan, mosquito nets serve a purpose beyond just keeping insects away— their gentle enclosure creates a sense of calm and security that enhances the depth of your sleep.

Because we’ve paid special attention to the sleep environment, the interior design follows the theme of “muishizen”—a philosophy of effortless harmony with nature— and is kept intentionally simple.

We invite you to enjoy a restful sleep in this tranquil, uncluttered space.

Stay in harmony with nature

I’ve always loved surfing and often spent time by the sea. Out of a desire to help protect the beauty of the ocean, I make small but conscious efforts to minimize my impact on the environment.

We avoid using animal-derived materials in our beds, allowing for a stay that is gentle on both the body and the environment. The amenities provided in each room are carefully selected, with a focus on plant-based products.

These include straw toothbrushes you can take home, additive-free shampoos and conditioners, and soft, comfortable sleepwear available for rent. Because these items come into direct contact with your skin, we prioritize both comfort and environmental responsibility— ensuring that you can use them with peace of mind.
